Great Lakes Shipwreck Research Services

I am able to do limited research for individuals or organizations looking for information on Great Lakes Vessels, Shipwrecks or Marine History. I have a large collection of reference materials and can generally provide accurate historical and site information on most Great Lakes vessels and shipwrecks at no charge. If I can't find information in my personal collection, I will then refer individuals to the appropriate research facility.

I am generally able to answer simple inquiries at no charge. However, if you want research requiring xeroxing, photo reproduction, visits to research facilities or mailing of documents, you'll have to reimburse me and I may charge a fee.

Please be as specific as possible about the type of information you would like and the vessel you are seeking information for. For example, "Any info. on the America" is unlikely to get a good response. But, "Looking for history, demographics and location of the wreck of the steamer America on Lake Superior" is likely to get a better response. Be aware that the Great Lakes have hosted about 10,000 wrecks and many vessels had the same names. Please try to be as specific as possible and be sure to type in your email address accurately.  Also, please try to find the info. online first.   I get a lot of Edmund Fitzgerald questions that could be answered by simply browsing my website.  Because I do this for free, I request that people make a good faith effort to find the info. themselves first.  I have placed some links below for this purpose.

Before filling out the form below, I suggest that you check the following online resources for common Great Lakes shipwreck info:

The David Swayze Online Wrecklist - Lists detailed info on THOUSANDS of Great Lakes wrecks.
SS Edmund Fitzgerald Page - Excellent info and other links for the Fitz.

If you can't find what you're looking for at the above sites, I may be able to help you.

Please give as much information as possible regarding your inquiry:

Please enter your email address (make sure you enter it correctly, 25% of all requests I get can't be processed because the email addresses are invalid)

Please enter your name:
